El Cid is a prosperous, family owned business that was formed by Don Julio Berdegue, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors in Mazatlán, Sinaloa. The company first became established in November 1972 with the introduction of El Cid Golf & Country Club – today this is a 27-hole PGA championship golf course and full-service Country Club. During this period, the exclusive residential development of El Cid Real Estate came into being.
Following the growth of the Country Club, El Cid opened its first hotel in 1974. Over the next 23 years, three additional oceanfront resorts and a professional marina were built, a tour and transportation company was started and El Cid Vacations Club was formed.
In 2001, the group expanded east toward the Mexican Caribbean and purchased El Cid La Ceiba on the island of Cozumel, where El Cid also operates a dive center and zipline park. Only five years later, El Cid opened its doors on the Riviera Maya, with the Hotel Marina El Cid Spa & Beach Resort and a full-service marina in Puerto Morelos. El Cid also owns commercial real estate in Riviera Maya.
